Justin R. Lockhart, MA, LPC-Associate, NCC
(Supervised by Kimberly Watts Hoggatt, JD, MA, LPC-S)

Justin R. Lockhart (he/him) received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with Distinction from Hendrix College and his Master of Arts of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Texas at Tyler. He is currently in the process of earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision at The University of Texas at San Antonio.

He is an LPC-Associate (supervised by Kimberly Watts Hoggatt, JD, MA, LPC-S) with clinical experience in private practice, inpatient behavioral health, and integrated community mental health settings. Because of this, he is a firm believer that good counseling involves holistic care. As a provider, Justin works with clients to identify areas of need and is comfortable working collaboratively with other professionals as needed to help his clients achieve their goals. Justin has additional experience working with members of the LGBTQ+ community, neurodivergent/gifted and talented/twice-exceptional individuals, older adults, college students, and those seeking career counseling.

Justin’s approach to counseling is rooted in existential and narrative therapies. In short, he believes that we all have a story to tell, and our experiences, values, and goals shape how we find meaning and fulfillment in life. Sometimes we encounter problems in our stories, such as depression, grief and loss, anxiety, or a number of other things that can make it hard to move forward. Justin believes that we can find power and purpose in how we choose to respond to these problems. He works with clients to help them identify their strengths, foster resilience, cope with challenges, and implement action-oriented tools to write a better story. Foundational elements of his approach are empowering clients, listening to their stories without judgment, responding with empathy and authenticity, and acknowledging the effects of systemic barriers on the well-being of his clients.

Justin grew up in the Piney Woods of Northeast Texas and now calls San Antonio home. In his free time, Justin loves spending quality time with friends and loved ones, seeing live music, working his way through San Antonio’s endless food options, and relaxing with his rescue cat.

Justin is currently not in network with health insurance plans.
